Jordan Walker's Workshop May 18th 2024

Painting Workshop with Jordan Walker Saturday

Jordan K. Walker is a painter based in Eugene, OR, and his work explores the complex and varied landscapes of the American West. After growing up in New England and graduating from the Rhode Island School of design in 2016 with a BFA in Illustration, he journeyed westward in search of rugged coastlines, mountainous vistas, and ancient forests. He channels his view of these spaces through his lifelong passion for natural history to create dynamic oil paintings. Whether working in the studio or painting outdoors, he invites viewers to share in his reverence for the natural world.

Jordan’s work has been shown in venues including the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Steamboat Art Museum, CFD Old West Museum, Maryhill Museum of Art, and the Bowers Museum. He is represented by Mark Sublette Medicine Man Gallery, and is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the California Art Club.

Lost Sierra Plein Air 2024

One day, 8 hour workshop on May 18th

During this intensive workshop in California’s Lost Sierra we will explore the essential principles of landscape painting; including composition, value, depth, and color. We will learn about the capabilities of a split primary palette, and work to capture the scale and majesty of our inspiring surroundings.

We’ll study the dramatic structure of alpine environments, and unravel the secrets of reflected light and bounced color. This class will also touch on essential techniques of oil painting such as paint application, edge control, and working from thin to thick. While oil is my medium of choice, students are welcome to bring any other painting mediums that they have experience working in and would like to try in the field! Prior painting experience is preferred.

We will meet at the Sand Pond Day Use Area; to get here turn off Gold Lake Highway onto Sardine Lake Road. The Sand Pond turnout will be after the campground and before the lodge. There will be a variety of painting locations near the parking lot, or within a short walking distance to Sardine Lake Lodge and Lower Sardine Lake.
